Hello, and welcome to a special festive edition of the coffee column! It’s the last Monday of 2015, so I’ve written a special New Year post for my dedicated readers!
Now, I know that my main ‘thing’ is better office coffee and (I hope) most offices are closed for the holidays. I thought I’d still publish a post, though, in the hope that you’ll be sitting at home, in a post Christmas stupor looking ahead to 2016 and your New Year’s resolutions…
Make #BetterOfficeCoffee one of them!

First of all, a very Merry Christmas to all of you! I hope that you all had a memorable yuletide – with food, drink, family, friends and merriment in abundance! Did you try any of Honest Coffees’ coffee cocktail recipes I shared last time? Maybe you were lucky enough to be given a copy of Mat North’s Coffee: A Modern Field Guide in your stocking or start the New Year armed with your very own Porlex Hand Mill?
I’d love to hear about your experiences. Tweet @Abe_Greener or leave a comment in the section below.
When the bells chime midnight on New Year’s Eve, it marks a turning of the page. Out with last year, and in with the next. It’s a chance to reflect and make resolutions for the year ahead. As 2015 comes to a close, then, I thought I’d take this opportunity to do just that.
2015 was the inaugural year for the coffee column. We launched with an article on my three best ways to brew coffee in the office (without a machine), and I’ve since published over 15,000 words of coffee evangelism, joined forces with the guys at Honest Coffees and made a lot of friends in the coffee world, like contributors Brian from Brian’s Coffee Spot, coffee recyclers Ros and Adam and coworkers CoExist, IndyCube and SSG.
We’ve looked at some of the fundamentals of better office coffee – choosing your beans, grinding, brewing, coffee machines – as well as a greener coffee experience and how coffee helps with productivity and fostering a stronger company culture.
I’ve had a great time writing the column this year, and it’s been a pleasure meeting you all along the way. As friend of the column and fellow coffee blogger John Guiliano said in his recent post “3 Things I Learned From a Year of Writing About Coffee”, the best way to learn something is to teach it to someone else. Through researching and writing articles around improving the office coffee experience I’ve expanded my own knowledge. Not only has the process shown me new ways to enjoy the optimum office coffee experience, but it has also been a great exercise in content and community building online.
So thankyou all, and I hope you’ll all stay with me into 2016 and beyond!
So what can you expect from the coffee column in 2016?
Well, there’ll be more fortnightly articles, exploring the ins and outs of better office coffee. I’ll be looking at the impact of water quality on your coffee, why you should start an office coffee club and more fun ways to use your coffee waste around the office. As we approach the column’s first birthday in March, too, I’ll be planning an extra special column – so watch this space!
I’ll be writing more guest posts for Honest Coffees on the ROI of better office coffee and there’ll be a few chances to win some special coffee-related goodies on social media. You can also now download my exciting new ebook – Abe’s Guide to #BetterOfficeCoffee – free on the Greener Media website. It’s your complete manual for improving your office coffee experience.
Have you thought about your resolutions for 2016? Whatever they are, make #betterofficecoffee one of them! A big Happy New Year from the column and all of us at Greener Media HQ! See you all for a coffee or two in 2016.
